This is by far Steve Jobs’ and Apple’s stupidest move. What amounts to an update for a smart gadget like the iPod Touch now comes with a price, according to Apple. Yes, you can now have an e-mail service on your iPod Touch + Google Maps with location support via WiFi triangulation. But $20 for these features? On a device that already has the capacity for such applications with no hardware additions, but only a little tweaking on the software side? Bah!
Didn’t Apple recently report a cash surplus? Then why so greedy Apple?

I think the announcement was a $19.99 fee for Maps and Mail…
Yeah, I like to nitpick.

I think they may have to pay a small license to use of Google maps, the new wifi locator and maybe even yahoo push mail…

But iPhone doesn’t cost anything to upgrade? No hardware is added, like the post said, just some new apps.
What license. My Nokia Maps is free. Google Maps is free, I think.

It would be more useful, instead of calling Apple stupid, to put up a poll. How many people would get that $19.99 features for their iPod Touch?

I would call it smart instead of stupid. Clearly, Apple will have invested “a bit” of money making these new features available for the iPod Touch and they will be getting “a lot” of money in return.

I would, I don’t want an iPod that talks but I do want an iPod that emails and figures out where to turn next.

A one-time fee of twenty dollars doesn’t sound too much for html email and Maps with WiFi locator on an MP3 player.

Apple is being plain greedy and that is the end of it. The more I think about it the more I think it sucks and I don’t even own an ipod touch.
