Lenovo has announced the X300 ultraportable. While MacBook Air has the faster processor and comes with 2GB of RAM, the X300 fits the description of an ultraportable more faithfully. One thing makes me curious about one item in the X300’s specification, the 13.3-inch screen. It sounds like vindication on Apple’s choice to put 13.3-inch of screen space on their ultraportable instead of the more common 12 or 11 inches. The Lenovo X300’s processor lower processor speed comes as a surprise. Rumors had it that the X300 was going to be a 2.0Ghz Santa Rosa laptop. Anyway, the X300 comes with a 64GB SSD standard, though starting price is $900 more expensive than MBA. At just under 3 pounds with 3 USB ports, an Ethernet port and the famous Thinkpad build, the Lenovo camp is calling the X300 an almost perfect laptop.

Wow. The Lenovo is really expensive, and has the huge disadvantage of being Windows-only (for all intents and purposes).

Well it’s nice that the X300 has more ports but you pay $$$ for those extra ports. So unless your made of money the Apple still looks like a good option…

What is the spec on the WiFi on the Leveno? Is it 802.11n?
What is the battery life like with wifi on? D Can I connect the Loveno to a larger monitor?

If the Lenovo has VGA, parallel and separate mouse and keyboard ports to match that fabulous retro 90’s industrial design… SOLD!
Yes, the higher screen resolution of the Lenovo is nice.
So, essentially, we’re talking about a MacBook that’s 2 lbs. lighter, butt costs more than 2 1/2 times the price of the base model.
The kicker? It’s crippled by running Windows.
As some in New York say… SUCH a deal!

Greg, x300 includes ssd . Thats why it is more expensive than basic model. Air with ssd drive cost 3100$. And you really need that drive with Air Mac. Thank you Steve.

At least we know Steve is NOT a vampire out to suck our souls and wallets dry with promises of immortality - You CAN see his reflection in the screen of the MacBook Air in pictures from the MacWorld Expo 2008 Keynote.

Review forgot to indicate that BASE model of X300 has solid state disk. MBA with solid state disk costs over 3k as well. So they are equal. You have to compare apples to apples. As for windows VS macOS. Thats a personal call, has nothing to do with laptops. Its interesting that every apple funboy who screams about MBA forgets to mention that it can only run for 3.5 hours before kicking it and gets hot like an oven. Compare that to X300 that has removable batteries, can take battery instead of cdrom as well, has 7+ hours of battery life…etc. If you want a pretty show off computer that you can brag about to your friends while sitting in starbacks, then MBA is a better choice, but if you need a work machine, then X300 is by far better.
