Let’s put it this way. You’ll pay $299 for 900MHz of processing power, a very usable Linux OS, 7-inch screen, web cam and 2GB of storage with only about 1GB free, right? Yeah, I’d pay $299 for a light-weight laptop smaller even than many real paper-and-spring notebooks with enough processing power to kick my desktop’s ass twelve years ago. But would you pay for a laptop that is almost as portable, only one pound heavier, has twice the processing speed (1.6GHz) but has two less USB ports, more storage but on a slower 4200 hard drive? If Apple thinks portable makes an under-powered notebook $1799 expensive, they should have given the idea more thought and reference Asustek’s little notebook.

I’m almost tempted to agree… and in somes ways I do, however, having actually used an Eee PC, my conclusion is this…
After February, iPod Touch sticks it to the Asus Eee PC!
(^_^)
I would consider using an Air as my main Mac (easily powerful enough for my needs), I could not say the same of an Eee PC.

You got a point James. But the reason why I put up this site is because I cannot imagine a company more spoiled by consumers than Apple. $1799 for an iPod hard disk!
They should lower the price to less than $1400. They are using the same chassis as other MacBooks. How much d’you think they have to spend for the same 13.3 screen?

If the Macbook Air will sell at US$300 or less, I’ll buy 2!

i must agree. i love the Eee, im going to get one asap. im a fan of asus, and linux, and the old school, under 1 ghz processors are (sure, damn weak but!) so damn handy when it comes to doing light weight linux stuff, or even heavy weight stuff, its just that theirs less resources going towards the OS,making things easier. im just in love with the Eee.
ohh, and mac must die.
