It took Apple, a new player in the mobile market, to change how the rest of the old players in the industry move forward in innovating mobile devices. Without the iPhone, we would not have seen the likes of Samsung Instinct, Omnia i900, HTC Touch Diamond, LG Dare and Sony-Ericsson Xperia this early.

Just read closely what Apple wants you to do with your iPhone 3G:

Turn off 3G
Minimize use of GPS
Fetch new data less frequently
Turn off Push Mail
Auto-check fewer Email Accounts
Minimize use of 3rd-Party Applications
Turn off Wi-Fi
Turn off Bluetooth
Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas
Adjust Brightness
Turn off EQ

Basically, they want you to turn it off and not use the iPhone to save on battery.

The iPhone OS 2.2 was just released earlier and there are already a number of issues and problems arising from it {via}.

Third-party Applications broken Some third-party applications will no longer function properly under iPhone OS 2.2 due to API changes and other modifications. These include a number of applications that make use of CoreAudio. These applications will generally need to be updated by their developers. However, you can try uninstalling then reinstalling applications for problems that do not involve API or other strict compatibility problems.

“Could not Connect to Internet” Some users are encountering an inability to connect to the Internet over cellular networks after the iPhone OS 2.2 update. In some cases, this issue can be resolved by switching from 3G to EDGE (or, for carriers other than AT&T, the appropriate GPRS network).

“SIM card not inserted” or PIN lock Some users are receiving an error message indicating that the SIM card is not inserted, or that a PIN lock is in place when none should exist.

Problems deleting email Some users are unable to delete emails from certain accounts, especially AOL accounts after the 2.2 update. This problem can generally be resolved by navigating Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (Your account name) > Advanced > Deleted Mailbox, then setting for the “On My iPhone” Trash for a POP account, or “On the Server” for an IMAP account.

Globe Telecom, a subsidiary of Singtel Singapore nabbed the exclusive rights to distribute the iPhone 3G in the Philippines for Asia.

Prices for prepaid and postpaid plans are as follows:

iPhone 3G 8GB Plans (Initial Fees)
Plan 1599: Php15,100
Plan 2199: Php12,600
Plan 3299: Php10,100
Plan 1599: Php20,600
Plan 2199: Php18,100
Plan 3299: Php15,500
Plan 3999: Php8,000
Plan 4999: Php2,900

Now compare that to the original iPhone 3G price here.

GPlan & GFlex Offerings:

G-Text: Php29,000 for 8GB / Php34,300 for 16GB
G-Mix 800: Php25,000 for 8GB / Php30,500 for 16GB
G-Talk 1200: Php22,900 for 8GB / Php28,400 for 16GB
G-Talk 1800: Php20,900 for 8GB / Php26,400 for 16GB
G-Match 2500: Php18,700 for 8GB / Php24,200 for 16GB
G-Max 3500: Php16,400 for 8GB / Php21,900 for 16GB
Platinum 5000: FREE for 8GB / Php2,900 for 16GB
Platinum 7000: FREE for 8GB / Php1,200 for 16GB
Platinum 10000: FREE for 8GB / FREE for 16GB

A lot of Filipinos are complaining of the expensive plans and the prepaid price but it’s Apple that primarily dictating the price schemes for all these.

Here’s another iPhone jailbreak, but this one is coming way left field from AriX, a 13-year-old developer. The iJailbreak developer has released iJailBreak 0.5.1, which unlocks the iPhone within 5 minutes. You can download the jailbreak here. The jailbreak code before that, the 0.5, can unlock 1.1.3 iPhone without “without any soft-upgrade bugs. This is currently iPhone only, however you can expect a version for iPod touches soon. It’s basically a visual frontend for ZiPhone, with a couple of extra features such as fixing the Bus error bug on Macs, and rebooting your iPod/iPhone automatically so you don’t have to fiddle with it.”

It is important to note about the 0.5 that “your iPhone be running a non-jailbroken 1.1.3. IMPORTANT: The unlock ONLY works for bootloader 4.6. When in doubt, don’t use the unlock The actual jailbreaking process will take about 1 minute. If you have an iPhone and would like to unlock and “hactivate” as well (you will get the option when you start the jailbreak, that will take another 2 1/2 minutes.”

iJailBreak 0.5.1 vs. 0.5 – these are similar codes though the 0.5.1 includes fixes to previous bugs and should expand compatibility. A fix for segmentation fault errors and PPC compatibility have also been included in the 0.5.1.

So, is Apple interested in gaming. Does Apple have a gaming department that we don’t know about. My MacBook comes with “Chess” and it’s a pretty boring game. The computer always wins, in case you want to know.

Can Apple be a game changer in the portable gaming industry in the same way that it was in the cell phone industry?

There’s a vulnerability in the Denial of Service Safari browser vulnerability. This is similar to a previous TIFF exploit. Users of iPhones or iPod Touch can point their Safari browser to a malicious site. This will trigger a malicious script which uses up the devices’ memory and cause them to crash. Affected units are those that have been upgraded to firmware 1.0.2 to 1.1.3. All the new 16GB iPhones and 32GB iPod Touches are vulnerable to the virus.
